Avalon Airport
According to some brochures, Avalon Airport is
billed as being Melbourne's second airport because it's approximately
40 minutes drive from the West Gate Bridge. These brochures, for some
reason, tend to overlook the fact that Avalon Airport is only 15
minutes drive from Geelong -- Victoria's second-largest city. By all
rights therefore, it should really be called Geelong Airport. Doesn't
have the same ring to it really, which is why the advertising remains
Melbourne oriented. Either way, both cities are accessible from Avalon
once you've hopped off the plane.
If you're planning on renting a car and negotiating the roads yourself,
it's all pretty easily set out for you. All of Australia's most popular
car rental companies have offices at the airport. Once you've found the
company you've booked with, just hop into the shiny rental vehicle
you've booked, you just head out onto the Princes Freeway.
Avalon Airport is on the main road – the Princes Freeway – between
Melbourne and Geelong. Driving to either city is pretty easy. If you’re
heading to Melbourne, then turn your Avalon Airport car rental
left as you leave the airport, and go across the freeway overpass to
take a right turn onto the PrincesFreeway. Basically, all you need to
do now is follow the signs all the way to the bright lights of lovely Melbourne.
Heading in the opposite direction to Geelong? Again, turn your
Avalon Airport car hire left as you leave the airport, you’ll need to
take the left entry onto the freeway, which is the Geelong turnoff, and
you’re almost there already.
If you have yet to organise a car rental, why not grab a great car hire Avalon Airport deal through Carhire.com.au.
Carhire has negotiated official contracts with Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Budget and Europcar,
and is therefore able to pool all of their deals into one convenient
place, so you can directly compare and choose offers to make sure
you’re getting the best deal. Sometimes Carhire has specials that are not
available anywhere else on the internet.
