East of the city of Melbourne is the seaside city of Frankston. It has been a popular retreat for the population of Melbourne and it is also known as the gate way to the Mornington Peninsular.
The film “On the Beach” from 1959 staring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardener was filmed partly in the city as writer Nevil Shute who wrote the screenplay lived in the area.
More recently Frankston has won awards for friendliest beach, most sustainable city award and a Natural Heritage award.
Stop through over summer at twilight and see the carnivals that tour the coast line and step back in time. It’s a great family outing.
