Cowra in New South Wales was first brought to the attention of the world during the second World War with the Cowra Breakout. Prisoners taken by Australia forces organised what is still the biggest breakout in history.
In memoriam to the fallen Japanese Soldiers of the breakout the people of Cowra built the beautiful Japanese Gardens. The gardens have been made in the style of the Edo period and are a kaiyu-shiki or strolling garden. Each October the gardens play host to the Cherry Blossom Festival and it well worth visiting the gardens at this time.
While at the gardens take time out at the teahouse. You will be revived and relaxed in no time.
